Description of Significance THE CHECOTAH MKT DEPOT IS THE ONLY EXTANT EXAMPLE OF STICK-STYLE RAILROAD ARCHITECTURE IN CHECOTAH, OKLAHOMA. FURTHER, IT IS ONE OF ONLY FIVE TERRITORIAL-ERA (1861-1907) WOOD-FRAME DEPOTS REMAINING IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA. THE DEPOT IS A 24'x104' SINGLE-STORY WOOD FRAME BUILDING WITH A RED TILE ROOF CONSTRUCTED 1903-1904. ITS FLOOR PLAN INCLUDES TWO WAITING ROOMS, A TICKET OFFICE, AND A FREIGHT ROOM. THE DEPOT WAS MOVED FROM ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION ALONG THE RAILROAD TRACKS TO PREVENT ITS DEMOLITION. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 9/5/1991.
